An Oustanding Blues Harp!

Designed in collaboration with Hammond Organs the Promaster Hammond combines Suzuki's outstanding laser tuned reeds with a smooth and functional comb and cover design from Hammond. The Promaster Hammond has a lovely rich tone when played in straight harp mode and also is amazingly resonant in the lower octave to give those rumbling cross harp tones.

"When I received my first Promaster Hammond I was expecting a great straight harp from the premier organ designers and sure, the Promaster Hammond is a wonderful straight harp. However I was agreeably surprised to find the Hammond is also a fantastic cross harp. So much so that I currently prefer the Hammond to the Hohner Meisterklasse (my previous favourite) for blues.

If you play cross harp you've got to try a Promaster Hammond. You'll be amazed at the blues feel. you get with these harmonicas."

About the Tester

Dane is a professional systems engineer, academic and musician who has played harmonica for over forty years. He currently plays harmonica and mandolin with a celtic/folk/blues band, Headland and a celtic/gypsy band, The Gypsy Tarts. Dane has researched and practiced harmonica maintenance and tuning in earnest for the last five years (since retiring from full-time professional work), and during this time has often been privileged to meet and learn from some of Australia's premier harmonica artists and technicians. On the qualifications side of things, Dane has undergraduate degrees in Engineering and Business, and post-graduate qualifications in Information Technology and Education. He works as a part-time academic these days and though he loves teaching computer engineering he enjoys himself much more when working on instruments and playing music!

Diatonic Harmonicas

Diatonic harmonicas come in several types (Tremolo, Bues, Octave etc.) with the common attribute being that the harmonica is tuned to a particular key (or scale). See the Wikipedia entry for Diatonic harmonica for excellent general descriptions of the major types of diatonic harmonica.

"Diatonic means, roughly, something in only one key, and that's the meaning applied to the harmonica. A C harmonica is tuned to the C major scale, and plays the two most important chords in C (C Major chord and G 7th chord). If you want to play the same song in another key, let's say D, you'd pick up a D harp and play it the same way you did in C. It's a little like using a capo on a guitar."Harp-L FAQ
